Camp Emmy History
Camp Emmy was founded in 2002 by Emily Wheland, more commonly known as Emmy. Her inspiration came from a friend who had never experienced sleeping in a tent or cooking full meals over an open flame. Emmy’s access to her family’s campsite gave her the ideal location to share the joys of camping.
Her enthusiasm quickly pulled two of her closest friends, Lindsay Reddington and Amanda Spotts, onboard. The three spearheaded the project; arranged acceptable dates in the mid-summer, a week’s menu, and drew a map of the campsite and surrounding trails. Mere seconds after arrangements began the name Camp Emmy was decided on in honor of Emmy’s inspiration and ready location.
The success of the first Camp Emmy created so much hype that it became an annual event.
Camp Emmy was born.
